Man Pinned Between Truck And Building

Posted on February 1, 2007
At 0740 hrs, the Bergenfield FD was dispatched on a general alarm assignment for a report of a man pinned between a truck and a building. Units responded to 51 New Bridge Rd. and found an employee of Hackensack Supply Co. pinned. He was in a small void between a steel support column and a large, unopenable bay door of the building. Units worked with ALS and BLS units from Bergenfield and Teaneck to stabilize the patient while preparing to move the truck. A winch was used to pull the truck off of the victim and he was quickly removed to a local hospital. The man was very lucky that the void was there or his injuries could have been much more serious. Units worked on scene for about 25 minutes.

At 08:15 hrs. the Bergenfield PD was notified via radio from one of their officers that he came upon a working house fire at 15 Foster Street. The BFD was dispatched on a general alarm assignment. While enroute to the scene, all west side apparatus was held up by a CSX freight train. Chief Polandick (740) called for a second alarm as soon as it was apparent that units would be stuck on the westside of the tracks.

Engine 743, was first due and hit the hydrant and laid in. The chauffeur, Rich Arsi, had hand lines stretched and waiting for members to arrive on scene. The initial handline was manned by Andrew McGoldrick and Jim McGoldrick. They made a quick and aggressive attack and had most of the heavy fire knocked down in 15 minutes. Captain Ned Kneisler handled operations and Lt. Paul Buehler was the officer inside the structure. Firefighters Ed Gomez, David Tedesco and Joe Lorz, Sr. worked inside as well.

There was no one home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. Units from Englewood, Teaneck and Dumont assisted with overhaul and the New Milford FD was the F.A.S.T Team. Dumont, Bogota and Ridgefield Park covered the town. Units were cleared of the scene at 13:00 hrs.
