Multiple Cars On Fire

At 02:06 Hrs, Bergenfield Fire dispatch received multiple 9-1-1 calls reporting a car fully engulfed in fire. After dispatching units, dispatch notified responding Chiefs that more than one car was on fire. Upon arrival on scene, Chief Hartung (740) established command. There was a car in the driveway of 248 E. Clinton Avenue fully involved in fire. Deputy Chief Gomez found another vehicle on fire a few doors down and was able to knock the fire down with a water can.

Engine 745 was first due and was told to stretch a line and work on the car at 248 East Clinton. Lt. Lodato and FF Chris Naylis stretched an 1½ attack line and extinguished the car fire. After further investigation, members found another car in the same driveway with a fire starting to develop in the door panel area. Members from the truck, RESCUE, and second due Engine, 743, assisted with overhaul as well as investigating other driveways for any fire activity.

Units found two more vehicles that were set on fire. In total, five vehicles were set on fire. The Bergen County Arson Squad responded to the scene along with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department. These agencies are working with the Bergenfield Fire Official, Bergenfield Police Department and the Bergenfield Fire Department on the investigation.

Bergenfield FD remained on scene for several hours to assist with the investigation.While the investigation on E. Clinton was going on, a resident on Porter Ave reported that the interior of their vehicle was set on fire.
